Governing Body Organization Submission

PA Schools Work is a non-partisan grassroots campaign calling on the state to pay its fair share and adequately and equitably fund public education in Pennsylvania. The campaign maintains the position that all Pennsylvania students have the right to attend public schools that will ensure they graduate with the 21st century skills necessary for success in college or a career.

Governing Body members evince a shared commitment to ensuring every Pennsylvania school-age child, regardless of family income, race, ethnicity or ability, can attend an adequately and equitably state funded local public school.

Governing Body Membership Responsibilities

Governing Organizations agree to:

  • Support and assist in implementing one or more of the campaign’s core strategies
  • Work collaboratively with other campaign members toward the fulfilment of the results, milestones and activities of the campaign’s workplan, which include, but are not limited to:
    • Active participation in the coalition as a fully engaged, decision body member.
    • Regular attendance at general and committee meetings
    • Contribution to the creation of policy, strategy and workplan development
    • Implementation of substantial workplan activities
    • Contributions of in-kind organizational resources to advance the campaign’s shared agenda
    • Engagement in all coalition efforts with a spirit of collaboration and respect for all members positions
    • Supporting a strategy to allow other groups to join the campaign as endorsing members
    • Recruitment and mobilization of grasstop voices from the business, civic and faith community to support the campaign
    • Utilization of social media to increase public awareness, support, and action about the campaign
  • Commit to having a senior level staff member spend a significant amount of time on campaign work
  • Serve on at least one campaign committee (i.e. mobilization, communications, research, or government relations) and regularly attend committee meetings
  • Ensure consistent staff representation at governing body and committee meetings
  • Assume responsibility for implementing the core components of the workplan
  • Mention the campaign in appropriate organizational communications
  • Reach out to their membership and promote activities of the campaign
  • Regularly share and disperse campaign generated documents

Ensure that diverse voices are represented throughout the implementation of the campaign’s workplan

Governing Member Rights

  • Participate in the creation of policy, strategy and workplan development
  • Vote on matters related to the implementation of core components of the workplan
  • Be included in the implementation of the core components of the workplan
  • Make recommendations regarding the implementation of the campaign’s core strategies or workplan
  • Receive respectful consideration of differing opinions and to request a meeting to address differences should they arise
  • Use PA Schools Work materials to advocate for campaign principles
  • Attend general and committee meetings
  • Provide input in the development of campaign materials

Governing Membership Submission Considerations

Organizations seeking membership to the governing body, that agree to governing body rights and responsibilities will be considered by the current governing body members at a regularly scheduled governing body meeting.

Submissions from organizations that have demonstrated a lack of integrity in other coalitions or inconsistency between the principles of the campaign and the goals of the submitting organization may be not be approved.

By submitting this form, my organization agrees to the membership responsibilities and rights, understands the consideration process and agrees to uphold and support the following campaign principles:

  • The state must fund public education equitably and adequately so that all Pennsylvania students, regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, family income or the community where they live, can attend public schools that will ensure they graduate with the 21st-century skills necessary for success in college or a career.
  • To achieve the campaign’s goal that Basic Education Funding meets the purpose and intent of the current funding formula, the state must, including but not limited to:
    • Pay its fair share of public education costs by:
      • Increasing basic education funding by at least $3 billion through the state’s fair funding formula
      • Ensuring sufficient resources for special education and career and technical education
      • Delivering targeted property tax relief to those who need it
    • Generate the necessary revenues through sustainable, recurring funding sources
