The Scranton School Board voted to furlough 218 employees, but the district was struggling well before the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated its financial distress. The state government has failed to fairly support the Scranton School District, and multiple analyses have highlighted how the district has been underfunded by scores of millions of dollars.


The Wolf administration has recently provided several one-time grants to mitigate the damage in the district, but only a long-term resolution to provide fair funding will put them on sound financial footing.
