Across the Parkland School District, 450 families requested Chromebooks, and about 50 requested mobile hot spots, said Tom Derhammer, supervisor of information technology. At Parkway Manor, which had 88 Chromebooks to give out, Bartman and Derhammer made phone calls to reach the 30 or so families who had not yet come to get them.
“We’re just trying to keep kids connected to the classroom,” Derhammer said. “We’re not talking just a winter break here. We don’t know how long this could be.”
